Texas main street managers' training

6/8/2013

One of the best ways to learn is to have open access to experts. The Texas Main Street Managers' Training sessions always allow this type of collaboration which enables us to cut through some of the trial and error experiences that would ordinarily be required to accomplish some new tasks. Some of the "experts" are just that - those folks who have the years of experience - in this case understanding the importance of historical preservation to economic development. Other "experts" are our peers who have had an experience and gone through the steps to accomplish something that we are trying to do such as hosting a particular type of event, constructively addressing code enforcement in our historic districts, or using social media to promote our towns.

The workshop in La Grange served to recharge our energy. The  presenters and our fellow Main Street Managers were insightful and delightful! Thank you Stacey Norris of the La Grange Main Street program for showing us all the great things that La Grange has to offer!

Looks like a Disneyland castle but it is the historic Fayette County courthouse in La Grange, Texas.

Howard Langner, Architect of the Texas Main Street Program in Austin, led a group of Texas Main Street Managers on a historical walking tour in downtown Llano in January.

The Llano Main Street Program is fortunate to have Howard join us again on May 30th, to help celebrate our historical district as part of National Preservation Month. Plan on joining us at 9 a.m. at the Visitor Information kiosk across from the Llano County Library. It will be an opportunity to take a brand new look at some beautiful historical buildings you pass by every day.

Happy Birthday, llano main street!

5/20/2013

Llano Main Street is 10 years old! She became a Main Street city in 2003 and has achieved national designation each year since. It has been 10 years well spent as you look around Llano's historic district. What do we have to show for it? For a few examples of updated facades, new signs, benches, and awnings which were done with assistance from Main Street, take a look at some of our Projects.

We take this opportunity to thank the City of Llano who has made the commitment for the last 10 years to fund day-to-day operations of the Main Street Program. Thanks also to the Llano Economic Development Corporation which allocates some sales tax dollars each year to help fund facade grants and beautification projects.

...and thank you especially to the Main Street volunteers and to Sarah Franklin, former Main Street Manager, who have given so much of their time and energy to establish the program and to make the Llano historic district what it is today.

Happy 10th Birthday, Llano Main Street!
